I learned today I really should check my inbox before I start posting. After the info I got from reading the rss feeds and posting my last entry I noticed that I had mail. Looking inside I saw this month's Warhammer Online Newsletter. This monthly digest of what's what in the Warhammer Online universe is always a welcome read. This month's newsletter was so much more than I had expected.
As usual there was an update on the up-in-coming beta phase which seems to be WAR's most extensive yet including;
- All 3 Campaigns from Tiers 1-4
- Contested & Peaceful Cities
- Continued Career Updates, Including the Introduction of the White Lion
- PvE Dungeons, such as Gunbad & The Bastion Stair
- New Scenarios
- New PQ's
- Updated User Interface
- Heraldry & Standards
- Guild Rewards & Tactics
- Crafting
- Real Time Website Updates with Character Profiles and RvR Stats
(taken from the Newsletter itself)
Well, needless to say I was blown away, Especially by one major item on the list. If you hadn't noticed and squelled a little like I did, Then I'm sure you missed PvE Dungeons. This is something that us raiders and PvE lovers from other games have been waiting for. Not much info seems to be around on Gunbad, but the team at EA Mythic were kind enough to include a link to a video detailing the beauty of the Bastion Stair dungeon. With some of the new lighting models in play this place looks amazing. I can't wait to sink my grubby little shaman teeth into this place. It seems like the WAR team has decided to make this place a truely epic adventure with the mention of five bosses who you have to defeat to open the last wing of this palace of death. Once you have the seals of the Chaos luitenents you can unlock the last wing and face the big bad of the Stairs and slay him for loot. Well, I say slay.. but the dev team has already said you won't be able to kill this boss, only banish him back to the chaos nether. I guess that way they can insure he will come back for other groups to banish in the future. My first impression was awe, Then something hit me. If this is a place run by Chaos why in the hell would Destruction want to invade this place? That was quickly answered a little later in the article, you know that whole read before you jump to conclusions thing. These demons are renagades from the inevitable city, And as much as we all like chaos and running a muck, these beasties still need to know their place. See, in chaos its might that makes right.
So, on to other things in the newsletter. For instance, the mention of this "real time" website that tracks the things you do. This isn't a new concept. It has shown to be very useful in Dark Age of Camalot as well as Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, and the not so real time World of Warcraft Armory. All these sites are Stat trackers that allow the players to keep track of things in the game when they are not themselves in the game. Cut, dry, simple... Let's just hope that WAR's site is a cut above the rest.
On another note EA Mythic was invaded by a guild calling themselves Mongbat. From what the boys at WAR have told and shown us, this guild sent a covert spy into the EA Mythic offices, or as I now call it their Keep, and planted the guild's banner with a notice of capture. I can assure you that these guys will have a spot in guild beta as well as a spot in the minds and hearts of the WAR team.
It seems that it has indeed been a big day for WAR news and I can only hope that open beta starts up soon, or someone over at EA Mythic reads this blog and decides I am worthy of a beta slot. Until then, More blood for the blood god!
